I personally felt that the artwork wasn't as quality as it could have been mainly because of inconsistency in characters' appearances, however it's easy to forget that the turn around for a comic series is quite quick (As far as I know, this graphic novel was a four part comic series before being compiled into one volume). Whilst the story does strongly show Liara's commitment to her friend Shepard by the way that she'll do anything and go through anyone to save him/her, an overly aggressive side of her personality is frequently highlighted that does not seem in character at all. Familiar faces are introduced to the narrative but they're not expanded on I personally wanted to know a little more about these characters but then again Liara is the focus of the story. I was surprised to find that there was not much more to it. To sum it up, the whole story is pretty much Liara's relentless pursuit of the remains of Commander Shepard (with the help of an ally). Firstly, I feel that the story was quite shallow. Liara is one of my favourite characters in Mass Effect and so I was excited to see what events shaped her to become the character she is in ME2 during the time between 1 & 2. I'm a big fan of the Mass Effect Universe and it's characters so I want to give an honest review on this graphic novel from the perspective of someone who has been deeply immersed in the ME Universe. She's way too aggressive and almost an unstoppable warrior and in some parts way too out of character.īut while this isn't the best ME comic it is still an amazing read and something a fan cannot afford to miss! Get it! Now! The other problem is how Liara is portrayed as a stone cold killer and a bit too "Rambo" for what we know of her in the games. The ending is abrupt, with a bit of closure but more of an effort to set up both ME2 and the DLC. The art is also very good with characters and locations closely drawn to those in the game. Dark Horse and BioWare's canonical continuation of the smash-hit video game is now available in an affordable omnibus Mass Effect 2 and 3 lead writer Mac Walters teams up with an all-star. There's lots of action and exciting sequences. The story moves along at a furious pace and the dialogs are decent. I suppose I should mention that if you haven't played the games or aren't a fan of this universe this will hold little value to you. A large part of the comic takes place on Omega, which is always a plus and we even get a small appearance from Aria. You get to see how Liara met Feron and how their relationship evolved and find out more about her motivations in the DLC. The comic is also a wonderful bridge to the DLC, "Lair of the Shadow Broker" which is still the best in the whole trilogy. The book is also essential as Liara is a different character when you meet her in ME2 and Redemption gives us a better picture of how she went from a shy archaeologist in the first game to a powerful and confident information broker in the second game.
